Bald eagles are present at Kootenai National Wildlife Refuge year around. In mid-winter it is possible to see up to 9 mature and immature eagles around the Refuge. Bald eagles hunt on the Kootenai River, which does not freeze, and at the Refuge ponds. Occasionally they get a duck dinner. This bald eagle was captured by a lucky photographer as he took his dinner to a tree near the nest.
