Enjoy Kootenai National Wildlife Refuge in 2017
Kootenai National Wildlife Refuge (KNWR) is a great place to enjoy the outdoors and be part of the many natural resources Boundary County has to offer. We hope to see you and your family at one or more of the events that will be held at KNWR during 2017. More detail about each event will be announced closer to the event date.

Bird Walks

Third Saturday of each month at 9AM (except July, August, and Decmber). The 2017 dates are Apr 15, May 20, Jun 17, Sep 16 , and Oct 21.

Bird Walks are led by expert birders. Come to find out what bird species and other animals are out and about at the Refuge. Gather at the Education Barn. Everyone is welcome, but children under 18 must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Bring binoculars and a field guide if you have access to them. Wear hiking shoes, dress for the weather, and expect to be out for about 2 hours. Water and sun protection are always a good idea.

Programs

We are working on several programs this year. The first was about pollinators, especially bees. Our thanks to Ray Chaffee for an entertaining and informative evening.

On Thursday, April 27 from 4:30 – 7:00 PM come to Mugsy’s Restaurant in downtown Bonners Ferry to meet officers of the Friends of Kootenai National Wildlife Refuge and other people who are interested in the Refuge. Hors d’oevures will be served and a no host bar is available. We want to hear your stories and ideas.

On June 10 we are planning a Photographer’s Day at the Refuge. It will last from 9:00 AM to noon. This will be a chance to get tips from professional photographers on getting the most from your nature shots. The suggested donation for this program is $10.00.
